Decorative Theme Ideas for Your Bathroom

If you feel like numerous other folks who consider their bathroom as little more than a shiny glare of fixtures and tile, try re considering how your bathroom could be. It is not that difficult, since all you need is your imagination to work out precisely the look and feel that you would prefer. Here are several design tips on bathroom theme accessories that will warm up the bathroom in no time at all.

You need to decide on a theme for your bathroom as you would any other room in the house. Theming not only adds mood to the room but also your individual personality. Of course, there are literally hundreds of themes to choose from including sea life, country style, tropical beaches and Mediterranean villas. However, as a good rule of thumb, you should choose a theme that suits you and not one that someone recommends. Ideally, go for a style that closely matches other deisgns around you house. By doing so, it will not be out of tune with the general theme of your home

If your bathroom is a little on the smallish side, you are not out of line with a lot of other homeowners since bathrooms in older homes were quite literally carved out of small unused closets. Even if you are one of the many unfortunate folks that have inherited a smaller bathroom, you can still decorate for color. Bear in mind though, that with smaller bathrooms, less is oftentimes better. Your color schema can be paint or wallpaper, but if the space is small, a neutral paint or paper color can be used on either one wall, or as an accent on a chair rail. You can choose to paint a conventional white, and accentuate with color utilizing different decorating accessories like framed prints, shells, baskets, throw rugs, and window treatments to name but a few.

Warm rusty tone of paint or wallpaper work really well with plants in the bathroom. But, select plants that like steamy warm conditions, and that can stand the various chemical substances. Many plants simply cannot take the gel, hairspray, and perfumes that are used on a regular basis in a bathroom. It will gum up the plants leaves and they will end up in your trash can. If your bathroom is large enough, you can hang up plants from the ceiling, or put them on the rear of the toilet. Large garden style tubs have enough space on the rim of the tub to place small plants, and together with bath soaps and baskets, they look stunning.

Rugs and towels play an important role when accessorizing your newly decorated bathroom. For a feeling of sheer elegance, you will not go far wrong with hand woven or deep luxurious throw rugs. Nevertheless, when purchasing the rugs, take into account the type of bathroom floor covering you are placing them on since they can pose a slipping risk when placed on a lino or tile floor. To prevent this, look for rugs that have either a non slip or rubber backing. Try coordinating your new rugs and toilet mat in either matching or alternating colors. When blended with a neutral background, assorted textures work well to make an inviting, cozy warm feeling to your bathroom.

You can jazz up your bathroom with decorative towel racks and colorful towels too. Towel racks are available in all manner of finishes including wood, bronze, silver and gold. If you want to match existing baskets and picture frames, you can paint or stain wooden racks in whatever color or shade you desire.

Modern bathroom lighting is just as important as the decoration and accessories. In fact, lighting can make or break the mood of any room. Because water and electricity do not mix very well, your initial consideration must be safety. If you have children in the home, I would advise that all lighting should be fixed and out of reach of small wet hands. That aside however, you can leave night lights on when the bathroom is not in use and if counter top space allows, a small lamp. You can then fit lamp shades that match your overall theme.

Lastly, take time and study a couple of decorating books on bathrooms. Look at their designs and see the numerous different ways to theme your bathroom. Utilize their designs for inspiration so your own creative juices will get flowing. It is okay to be uniquely you when decorating your bathroom, so go for it! You will never know what unusual themes take your fancy until you check them out when trying to decorate your bathroom at home.
